This weekend, Magnified Voices joined Little Orphan Ashley and community partners for the “Power Up & Break Chains” community safety event and self-defense workshop in Tampa. From boxing and taekwondo to situational awareness and human trafficking education, the event was a powerful reminder that strength takes many forms, and that every person deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported.
Human trafficking isn’t just a personal tragedy; it’s a community issue. Florida consistently ranks among the states with the highest number of reported cases. In 2021 alone, the National Human Trafficking Hotline documented 781 trafficking cases in Florida, with 574 involving sex trafficking and 99 involving labor trafficking. The state also identified 1,253 victims that year, underscoring how widespread and often hidden this issue is.

Community Safety Events Empower us to Act
A recent statewide report from the University of South Florida estimates that more than 700,000 Floridians were trafficked in 2024, highlighting the scale of exploitation across our communities and the urgent need for prevention, awareness, and coordinated action.
That’s why we show up. Awareness events like this help equip families, youth, and neighbors with tools to stay safe, and help us build a community that refuses to look away. We’re grateful to Franklin Boxing, Children’s Home Network, Ashes to Beauty Life Coaching, and Harmonia Med Spa for creating a space rooted in empowerment and healing.
Together, we break chains and build community.
